2008.10.10 : SYSTEMA TW5 and TW5-MAX Now In-Stock! |
|
|
Following
the success of the original SYSTEMA TW5, as well as the
tremendous response we received from the recently introduced
TW5-MAX, we are pleased to announce that the initial demand has
finally stabilized. As of this writing, all pre-orders from our U.S.
dealers have been filled and we now have enough TW5 (and related
accessories) either in-stock or en-route for immediate delivery.
Furthermore, we'd like to take this opportunity to answer a few
questions on the TW5 that many enthusiasts have e-mailed us about.
First of all, the TW5 and TW5-MAX does share identical exterior
components. Unlike our M4/M16 product line, where the MAX-series uses
stronger polymer, all TW5s uses high-strength fiber-reinforced polymer
for all the non-metal exterior components (such as lower grip-frame,
hand guard, stock etc). They also share the same barrel, motor,
electronics, and basic mechabox design; as well as the highly
sought-after 4-position electronic trigger (SAFE/SEMI/BURST/AUTO). That being said, the main
differences between the TW5 and TW5 MAX are:
1. TW5-MAX employs a new, stronger Main Sector Gear.
2. TW5-MAX employs a modified Spur Gear that has a slightly
higher gear ratio.
3. Instead of the M90 cylinder, TW5-MAX comes with an M150 (~500FPS)
cylinder unit.
Obviously, due to the reinforced gear set and different gear ratio, the
TW5-MAX can utilize M150 cylinders effectively, whereas only M130 (or
lower) cylinders are recommended for the TW5. Furthermore, when the
M150 cylinder is used, a SYSTEMA 12v 2400mAh battery is required. Other
then that, the TW5 and TW5-MAX are virtually identical in many aspects.
Finally, we have also make a very slight change to all the TW5
cylinders, to improve compatibility with the TW5-MAX's new gear sets.
Basically, one of the grooves cut into the cylinder cashing is now very
slightly deeper. You may still use the older cylinders safely with
a TW5-MAX, its just that occasionally the new spur gear would rub on the
cylinder's case. Our engineers have determined that the occasional
rubbing has no detrimental impact to the TW5's operation or reliability,
the worst that could happen is the paint on the cylinder case (inside
the groove) got rubbed off. So please feel free to mix them up,
any version of the cylinders will work with any variation of the TW5.
Nonetheless, if you have an older cylinder and insist to have it
updated, you can special order the new cylinder casing from your
favorite PTW dealer.
In closing, regardless of which version you decided to own, we are
certain that they will provide years of reliable service for our users.
Please visit your local Official SYSTEMA Dealer to experience the new
TW5 first-handed!
Note: We've recently noticed some
confusion in the community, in regards to our model naming. Please note
that our internal reference, as well as official model number, is
"SYSTEMA TW5" — where "TW5" stands for "Training Weapon Model-5". Some
users have referenced our product as the "SYSTEMA MP5" or "SYSTEMA PTW
MP5" which are both incorrect. |

2008.10.01 : SYSTEMA Introduces RoHS-Compliance PTW M4 Batteries |
|
|
In
an effort to protect our environment, SYSTEMA have recently revised
the construction method of all M4-style
batteries to use lead-free solders exclusively. Unfortunately, as
part of the initiative the solid copper bar (that is used to connect the
batteries) could not be utilized anymore. Since many of the users
did not understand why the copper bar is abandoned, we asked SYSTEMA's
engineer for an answer.
In short, if we must continue to use the copper bar together with lead-free solder,
we could see as much as 30% reduction in battery life, as well as significantly
reduced "cycle life". Although this seems odd to us at first,
once we read the detailed report it is not difficult to understand.
As the engineers explained, the main culprit here is heat. In the past,
when soldering the the copper bar directly onto the terminal, we were able to keep the cell's
temperature in-check by using a "heat spreader jig" (think of it as a
giant heat-sink for the battery). However, when we experiment with
lead-free solders, due to their considerably higher melting point even with the
heat-spreader we would still find overheating to occur frequently on the
cells that are directly being soldered. Without going too much
into the chemistry behind it, overheating a cell physically damages it
causing its energy storage capacity to be reduced permamently. To make the
matter worse, since only 2 of the cells in the battery pack is affected,
deep-discharging the battery may even cause "voltage reversal" (another
term that I won't go into too much detail here). The combination
of overheating and voltage reversal will significantly degraded the battery's
performance and reliability.
As a result, the copper bar is now replaced by a spot-welding two metal
taps, pre-connected with a high strength wire, directly on the
terminals. Although high current spot-welding is a very desirable construction method of battery packs,
unfortunately the new design is not as "rigid" and could not
withstand abuses as readily as the old design.
Nonetheless, as you can see the choice was not easy. Obviously, ignoring environmental concerns and sticking with the old
construction process is not a very good option. However,
sacrificing performance isn't
acceptable either. Thus, at the end we took the compromise in order to
maintain battery performance. Since most PTW users put performance
as their top priority, we believe this is the most sensible option.
I hope your opinion will be the same!

2008.04.21 : Clarification of the PTW FPS-Up Kit |
|
|
We
would like to take this opportunity to clarify that our previous news
release, "PTW FPS-Up Kit", was indeed intended as an "April Fools' Day"
joke. We will further confirm that as of its writing, there were no
plan to offer such "upgrade kit" that allows users to "F-Up" their PTW
or Cylinders. Therefore, please rest assure that your PTW is safe for
the moment. As to many users who e-mailed us asking if we could
actually "made it real", the matter is currently "undecided". One thing
is certain though - if we do want to bring this product to life, we will
likely have to manufacture and distribute it under the ZShot brand name
(not from SYSTEMA Co.), and that a lot of additional research will be
required.
Furthermore, I would also like to apologize to anyone who had taken the
previous release offensively. We just realized that many non-English
speaking users may not "get the drift" (as the joke could not be easily
translated). In addition, we'd like to publicly apologize to SYSTEMA
Co. as well, whereas we've used their product packaging as the
background in the original image without obtaining prior approval.
SYSTEMA Co. (Japan) was not involved in our prank and was not aware of
the news release beforehand; therefore they have no knowledge of this
"product" nor have any plan to offer it in the future. However, we
seems to have caused quite a commotion in the market (especially among
those who thought this was real) that some users had mistaken our joke
as a "genuine product" offered by SYSTEMA Co. - which is not true. In
light of that, we decided to change the picture in our previous news
release to avoid future confusion.
Please do not contact them (SYSTEMA Co.) asking for the "FPS-Up Kit".
Our "fake" little news is solely intended to bring some humor to our
life.
Thank you!

|
|
Due
to popular request, ZShot.com is proud to present the long-awaited
FPS-Up Kit
for SYSTEMA PTWs! Have you ever wonder why there is not an "M100"
cylinder or "M120" cylinder? Do you feel like the blue cylinder is a
bit too weak, and the gold cylinder a bit too strong? Do you long for
the perfect PTW that gives exactly 400FPS performance, but couldn't find
a way to "up" your FPS just slightly? Your wait is now over!
With the new "FPS-Up Kit" (F-Up Kit for short), you can now tune each
cylinder's output to your heart's content! The ZShot.com F-Up Kit
consists of five (5) precision-made, 1mm thick stainless steel spacers
that are custom-cut to our exact specifications. When installed over the
base of PTW cylinder's spring guide, the F-Up Kit slightly increases
compression (and therefore spring rate) in your cylinder, translating to
as much as 10% improvement in muzzle velocity. This is by far the
quickest, cheapest, and easiest way to F-Up your cylinder, bar none!!
Furthermore, you can install anywhere from just one to all 5 of the
precision spacers over your spring guide, which gives you lots of
flexibility to F-Up your cylinder to different levels. This allows
customization never before possible in the history of PTWs. You can
F-Up your PTW however way you want!
This exciting FPS-Up Kit will be available at your PTW dealer starting
this week for only $29.95 MSRP. Please do not miss this great chance to
F-Up your cylinder collection!
The ZShot.com FPS-Up Kit. Guaranteed to F-Up your PTW!
* Please note that due to
the complexity of the PTW cylinder, if you are not comfortable with the
disassembly, your trusted SYSTEMA dealers will be more then happy to
F-Up your PTW for you. Furthermore, to prevent dirt from entering your
cylinder, it is recommended that you please do not F-Up in the field
(use common sense).
** Our extensive testing in-house shows that the F-Up Kit is a perfectly
solid and safe way for any of our customers to F-Up their PTW(s). Please
use it without reservation!! (Warranty void after application.)

2007.03.28 : New PTW Accessories Now Available for Pre-Order! |
|
|
In
conjunction with the new release of the M733-MAX, SYSTEMA
is pleased to announce two new accessories for existing PTW owners who
refuse to miss-out on the latest and greatest! First item is our
brand-new PF-490 motor, using many of the innovations found on the
popular Magnum and Turbo motors. Their initial deployment in the
M733-MAX has received rave reviews from users and professional trainers
alike, so we decided to release them as upgrade parts for existing PTW
owners. These new PTW motors are divided into two specialized versions:
Type-A and Type-B. Type-A is geared towards extreme performance with
the highest possible torque and RPM, whereas Type-B is designed
specifically for the mainstream training market where power consumption
must be taken into consideration seriously due to possible days-long
training exercises. To read more on the technical details of these
exciting motors, please download the whitepaper
here.
Second item from the list is a vastly improved collapsible stock butt
plate. Two oversized, spring-loaded retention locks, CNC-machined out
of solid aluminum, lock the butt plate in place with absolute authority
and zero guess-works. However, one easy squeeze on the side-buttons
will instantly release the butt plate from the stock. Many of our
professional trainers were heavily involved in this design revision, and
so far their feedback has been excellent. Therefore, after much
deliberation we have decided to formally release them for competition
use as well. We are sure you will like it.

U.S. MSRP for these exciting new products are US$295 for both PF-490
motors, and US$59.95 for the new battery butt plate, respectively.
Please contact your nearest official SYSTEMA dealers as we
are already accepting dealer pre-orders!
